Using America Online AolPress under Windows XP

PHOTOSPORT uses Aolpress Web Authoring software for all web frontend development. AolPress is a straightforward WYSIWYG app, lightweight and fast, and produces simple code that does not load the server and displays identically in all known browsers.

Unfortunately, support for AolPress was abandoned by AOL following the termination of its PrimeHost initiative in 2000. Fortunately, the freeware is still available and runs under recent Windows versions and Mac up to 8.1. The most recent stable version of AolPress is v.2.0, which is a 32-bit executable dating from 1997.

AolPress does not support CSS or javascript.

Symptom: In Windows environment, AolPress stops displaying images and graphics.

This happens under certain combinations of video drivers and display settings. Instead of the photo or graphic, a replacement image showing a disconnected telephone is displayed.

Procedure:

1) TOOLS > PREFERENCES > GENERAL>,

2) IMAGE DISPLAY METHOD> select PHOTOSHOP 4 JPEG

Symptom: AolPress rewrites inserted Javascript as nonconforming HTML

Workaround:

1) TOOLS > PREFERENCES > GENERAL>,

2) HTML CONFORM TO> select NETSCAPE
